Vantage Master Online

Something for the weekend :)

Vantage Master Online is a freeware turn-based strategy game with fantasy units released by Nihon Falcom Corp of Japan. Despite the title, it has both single player and multiplayer modes.

Here’s a screenshot from the Japanese version. Don’t worry, the download link above is for the English version :)

The basic premise of this game is very simple: You control a Master who can summon Natials, which are your fighting units.

Defeat the opposing Master by attacking with your Natials and/or your Master (depends on the Master you create - some are better offensively, others are better off supporting their units with magical attacks). The type of Master you control in Scenario/Expert Mode ala campaign mode depends on how you answer a series of random questions.

Each Natial has an elemental attribute : Earth, Water, Fire, Heaven. Earth is superior to Water, Water is superior to Fire, Fire is superior to Heaven, and Heaven is superior to Earth. Simple rock-scissors-paper gameplay.

As a Master, you also have to consider issues like terrain type which affects movement speed and defense values as well as facing direction which also affects damage taken.

There’s also a single scenario mode called Free Battle Mode as well as a Network Mode (I haven’t tried it out yet).

Overall, a very fun little game which takes very little time to learn to start playing. To read more about the game mechanics, check the online game manual here.

Well, it’s been busy. And the IRS is in a rather raping mood too…
