Game Book Covers @ Mithrandir’s Gamebook Grotto

Some game book covers from Mithrandir’s Gamebook Grotto to bring back memories of a time where a vivid imagination was one of the requirements to play any game, be it game books or pen-and-paper RPGs. A trip down memory lane as my dear gnome would say ;)

Covers and blurbs of major game book series like Lone Wolf, Fighting Fantasy (FF) (the old edition covers), The Way of The Tiger (the world of Orb has to be my favourite fantasy universe - move over, Warhammer :p) and lesser known series like The Eye of the Dragon and my absolute favourite - Grail Quest - a truly nonsensical but enjoyable series by J.H Brennan.

Covers of four game books that I still own (cover art taken from Mithrandir’s Gamebook Grotto). Clockwise from top left: FF #14: Temple of Doom, The Way of The Tiger #3: Usurper!, Lone Wolf #6: Kingdoms of Terror and Grailquest #6: Realms of Chaos.

Most of the series are out of print - except for Fighting Fantasy. You can join their fan club “The Adventurer’s Guild” and they’ll mail you a little Adventurer’s Pack with a nice, exclusive postcard-size fantasy artwork - not sure it’s random - mine’s the new cover artwork from FF #8 Forest of Doom - illustrated by Martin McKenna :)

If you’re more into Lone Wolf, check out this other post on the Lone Wolf Internet Edition game books by Project Aon which features downloadable versions of 17 Lone Wolf game books (authorized by Lone Wolf author Joe Dever, of course)

I love a lot of the old covers - the cover artwork for The Way of The Tiger series and the Lone Wolf reprints were excellent. The new Fighting Fantasy covers are OK but a bit too simplistic for my taste IMHO.
