My Favourites Miniatures from Golden Demon Awards @ Games Day Atlanta 2007

Games Workshop posted the results and photos of the annual Games Workshop miniatures modelling and painting contest known as Golden Demon at Games Day Altanta in Apr 2007. Below are some of my favourites in random order.

  • Death Korps of Krieg Infantry Squad (Forge World Best of Show) – Marc Raley

I’ve been a fan of the gas-mask wearing Imperial Guard troops like the Death Korps and the similiar-looking Steel Legion after seeing Adrian Smith’s illustration of the clash between the Steel Legion and Orks during the battle for Armageddon (see below).

  • Night Lords Daemon Prince (Silver Award, Warhammer 40,000 Large Model or Vehicle Category) – Greg Smalling

I seldom like models with painted faces because I find that few models and miniatures can get the face and eyes to look realistic like this magnificent model of a Night Lords Daemon Prince. BTW, he does look like Death Knight Arthas from Warcraft 3, no?

  • Ragnar Gutsnagga, Orc Warboss on Boar (Gold Award, Warhammer Single Miniature Category) – Todd Swanson

Simply amazing stuff. I love the detail of the orc’s armour as well as the elaborately gory standard ;)

  • Chaos Warriors of Nurgle (Honorable Mention, Warhammer Regiment Category) – Pete Underwood

Somehow these models remind me of the macabre Nurgle Carnival of Chaos. (UPDATE: Actually these are the actual Mordheim Carnival of Chaos Warband miniatures, oops … Thanks, e) Read a wonderfully-illustrated short story about the Carnival of Chaos on the Mordheim page (scroll, scroll, scroll …) View photos of his entry at the honorable Mentions page. (Second row, rightmost entry).

  • The Everlost of Altansarat – (Honorable Mention, Open Category) – Frederick Casler, Jr

Another jaw-dropper with the exquisite detailing on all the models in his entry.

Marvel at the other winners and honorable mentions at the official Golden Demon Awards @ Games Day Atlanta 2007 page at Games Workshop US.

Those Nurgle guys should remind you of the Carnival of Chaos because they ARE the models designed to represent them. They are probably the coolest looking sculpts in the Mordheim line.

Oops, didn’t realize that, e … because I’m primarily a collector of WH40K artwork and not a avid GW gamer. Thanks a lot ;)

Uhhhh, not warhammer nerd, would you say the same thing to someone who paints portraits all day or writes books or any other artistic task? I think not…if you would then you truly are an idiot.

not warhammer nerd, a perfect example of ppl who are so short sighted they can’t even see past their own nose. And what are you even doing on a page like this if you don’t like it? btw warhammer is a great alternative for watching TV because almost everything they broadcast is crap.

      Greetings
