Possible Influences for Weapons in Frontlines : Fuel of War
A closer look at the some of the concept art for Frontlines : Fuel of War under development by Kaos Studios and to be published by THQ. All concept art can be found at the the bottom of the current Frontline : Fuel of War site.
Since this game is based in the near future, I’ll try to identify the possible influences for some of the weapons shown in the concept art.
Western Coalition Sniper Rifle
This sniper rifle (Third weapon blueprint from the left) is probably based on Accuracy International’s AS50 semi-automatic sniper rifle (see article at Modern Firearms) with a distinctively different buttstock and muzzle brake.

Western Coalition Assault Rifle
This rifle (Fourth blueprint from the left) is possibly influenced by several rifles currently in service around the world, namely the F2000 (Modern Firearms article) (for the front part and grenade launcher), H&K G36 (Modern Firearms article) (for the trigger area and buttstock. It also shares some similiarities with the XM8 (Modern Firearms article) (check out the curves) and the XM29 (Modern Firearms article) (air burst grenade capability).

Western Coalition M1A3 Tank
Below is the Western Coalition M1A3 (First blueprint) which is based on the current M1A2 Abrams tank in use by the US Army today.

The Kao Studios designers upgraded the main cannon from 120mm to 144mm, redesigned the headlights (looks real sleek now) and replaced the commander’s .50 machinegun with a remotely-controlled turret.
The smoke grenade launchers in the real tank have been superseded by the strange system on each side of the turret (probably an active protection system – think an future version of the American/Israeli Trophy or the Russian Arena). The M1A3 also looks much smaller – there’s less roadwheels (six compared to seven on the M1A2) and the turret also looks much more compact.
By the way, if you’re really interested in the M1A2, check out the official specifications at General Dynamics Land Systems which manufactures the actual tank.
