Military Tuesday : Long Range Shooting Simulator Demo 2.02

A Flash simulation on the technicalities of shooting i.e not pointing the crosshair at the target and clicking the left mouse button ala CS :)

This interactive demo for the Long Range Shooting Simulator CD is intended for people who wish to learn more about the finer points of shooting at 300m and above using a rifle with an attached mil dot scope. It’s not a game so you will have to estimate the distance to the target using mil dot ranging (which you can learn from a sample tutorial), adjust the scope accordingly, taking into consideration factors like weather (wind velocity and direction, humidity, temperature, etc) as well as ballistic characteristics of the particular round you’ll be firing, which includes .308 (7.62mm), .338 Windrunner and .50 (12.7mm).

The site also provides a tutorial on mil dot ranging but doesn’t provide the full details for adjusting the scope to compensate for wind speed or on using the ballistics data provided for the particular round so it’s going to be very difficult to score a first round hit at longer distances (1500+ m). All this data, accompanying lessons as well as close to 300 scenarios are available on the CD for 39.95 USD (for US and Canada only). Ordering information can be found here here.

    I created the Long Range Shooting Simulation and appreciate the review. The full version has a complete classroom section on wind estimation as well as another classroom which explains step-by-step how to calculate the wind adjustment from the range card. The mil dot classroom is only one example from the full version.
