Art Friday : DeskMutations is Back!
DeskMutations was one site I found by chance while searching for illustrations of the Sukhoi Su-25 ‘Frogfoot’ months ago. I didn’t find what I was looking for but I did come across the beautiful artwork of a pair of Su-37 ‘Flanker-F’ by Stalinlasar featured on DeskMutations instead.
At that time DeskMutations featured the DeskMutant’s picks of icons, skins, themes, cursors and of course, desktop wallpapers from the deviantART community. Anyone who has casually browsed the huge amount of artwork in deviantART will immediately understand the usefulness of a site which recommends some of the best works the deviantART community has to offer.
From DeskMutations, I realized that the .Net is now a veritable trove of fantastic high-quality artwork, a far cry from my previous experiences sifting through low resolution scanned artwork on personal websites during the era of Geocities/Fortunecity and 56k modems. (that was before sites like deviantART and GFXartist were born)
I wrote about DeskMutations in March (see here) and was pretty disappointed when it closed a while later. As I was still subscribed to its RSS feed, I was suprised to see it updated a few weeks back only to be disappointed again when I saw that it had changed its focus to blogging tips for Wordpress.
However I’m pleased to announce that DeskMutations has officially switched back to its original focus on the desktop customization scene and will continue to post about more great wallpapers and other customization art (started with the Spice wallpaper posted on October 18). DeskMutations also requests for permission from the artists to feature their works on the site, which is a commendable practice which I also follow here at The Download Munkey since April 2007.

Thanks for the plug. Took a short vacation and got back today to find my scheduled posts didn’t post as planned, so there’s a gap in posting.
I know there’s not much there now, but give me some time. Permissions can take a week or so to get sometimes.
Yep, trust me I understand fully about the permissions thing, many of these artists are busy people too.
