Military Tuesday : ACE Armoured Vehicle Scale Model Boxart
ACE of Ukraine boasts some interesting illustrations of modern Russian and ex-Soviet/Warsaw Pact armoured vehicles as box art on their scale model kits. While the artwork certainly do not match the level of detail of the box art of major manufacturers like Tamiya are renowned for, some of the subjects chosen for ACE’s kits are definitely unusual choices rarely seen in kits by the bigger brands.

This is the first time I’ve seen the TOS-1 ‘Buratino’ flamethrower tank (above) as a scale model (specifications of the real-world vehicle can be found at GlobalSecurity.org or in the OPFOR Equipment Guide).

Other interesting vehicles include the MTK-2 UR-77 Line Charge mine clearing system, BTS-2 armoured recovery vehicle based on the T-54 chassis and the IT-1 Drakon missile tank in limited service from 1968 to 1970. (Wikipedia)

Variants of the ubiquiteous BMP like the Ukranian BMP ‘Shkval’ (above) and the BREM-2 armoured recovery vehicle (below). I’ve never seen any of these armoured vehicles in books before probably due to the scarcity of info and materials in English.

There’s also models of the Tiran 4/5 also known as (Ti-67 - Tank Israeli, 1967) and the Tiran 6 which were T-54/55s and T-62s respectively, captured and pressed into Israeli service. More info on these tanks can be found at GlobalSecurity.org.
