Games Thursday : Take 9 & My Other Gaming Site Recommendations

While you only need a couple of sites to keep track of the latest releases for both the commercial (e.g 2404.org) and indie scenes (e.g IndieGames.com Weblog, JayIsGames), freeware/open-source (e.g Games for Gamers), you can never have too many review sites especially for the booming indie scene. Years ago, I associated indie games with the Finnish and Japanese DOS game scenes, now it appears that everyone is making games with the number of games released these days

I enjoy game review sites that offer more in-depth impressions and reviews on individual games than the usual one paragraph blurb taken from the readme.txt since it helps me to quickly prioritize which game to download and play with the limited gaming time that I have. Even I haven’t been actively searching for new games to play these days, the IndieGames.com Weblog easily recommends over 10 games in a week (add another 10 flash/casual games from the good guys over at jayisgames) and you quickly realize the regular working guy (or gal) simply just doesn’t have the time to play even 10 games per week.

Today’s site of the day is Take 9, a brand new gaming site launched by Martin of gHacks.net. While Take 9 covers gaming in general, it does boast an excellent and rapidly growing list of reviews on a selection of more obscure games.

To me, a good game review site doesn’t have to write about the latest or the most popular games since I can read about them on the major gaming new sites – I’m much more in favour of sites like Take 9 which write about interesting yet relatively unknown games.

Here’s some of my other gaming site recommendations:

Indie / Freeware / Open Source Games

Flash Games

Check out Take 9 and the shmup 2elacsy, the first game that got me interested in Take 9.

    Hey Roys,
do u know what i found while browsing around take9.com?
i found this freaking weird game “the Mekuri Master, the Skirt-Flip King”, a game about flipping women skirt (??!!) on the exotic genre :) )
it’s hilarious to get this kind of idea, i think this should go perfectly on DS if they’re goin to make it for console :D
