Art Friday : Lovepixel’s Pixelcity Extraordinaire

While artists like eBoy have condensed the essence of entire cities like London, Berlin, Vienna and Singapore into wildly fantastic landscapes the size of your monitor (see previous post), Taiwanese pixel artist Jason Huang aka Lovepixel has gone in the opposite direction and conjured a breathtakingly epic and distinctively Taiwanese cityscape. Expect to see elements of traditional Chinese culture such as signboards labelled in Chinese (but of course) and qigong/taichi practitioners co-existing with Western imports like megamalls, McDonalds and urbane hipsters.

Reminds me of the not-so-good old days ;) Sucks to be on guard duty just opposite a shopping mall - feels so near yet so far

This massive city measures an mind-boggling 10,000 pixels by 10,000 pixels which you can appreciate in its entirety over at Jason’s site. A tiny thumbnail of the whole city simply doesn’t do the original masterpiece justice therefore I have chosen the next best option and cut out some of the more interesting snippets above. I still recommend you to hop over to Lovepixel right away to check out the entire cityscape - it’s that fantastic!

Marvel and be amazed at this gorgeous pixel city at Lovepixel. Click on the image to enter the site where more marvellous works await.

Lovely, but please, oh please, don’t mention guard duty again…
