Military Tuesday : Visby Class Stealth Corvette
High resolution photos of possibly the most futuristic-looking warship in service right now – the Visby Class of stealthy corvettes serving with the Swedish navy.

The sleek clean lines and large flat angled surfaces of this ship minimise the radar cross section while the propulsion systems have been designed to be efficient and as noiseless as possible. Simply reducing the radar and noise signatures do not make a ship less detectable as the official page for the Visby Class at Swedish shipmaker Kockums (a subsidary of the German conglomerate, ThyssenKrupp AG) explains:
The Visby is designed to minimize all signatures – optical and infrared signature, above water acoustic and hydroacoustic signature, underwater electrical potential and magnetic signature, pressure signature, radar cross section and actively emitted signals.
Not too sure about the modern-day effectiveness of disruptive patterns painted on these ships though- I’ve read that these patterns were painted on warships during the two world wars to make it tougher for submarines to estimate the speed and direction of the ships.
Here’s a couple of photos of the Visby Class corvettes in European waters.

stealth? with the color that obvious, i’m sure it’s not that hard too miss
Of course if it gets so near, you’re as good as dead already
Sweet! Looks like it came right from MGS4 with the slick designs. It reminds me of the enemy ship at the end of the game.
