Random Monday : Games Workshop 2009 Collector’s Guides

The catalogues for 2009′s Collector range of miniatures and Bitz (extra parts for customizing your miniatures) from Games Workshop’s trio of tabletop miniatures games – Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of The Ring Strategy Battle Game are now available as PDFs with reasonably high-resolution photos for your viewing (and purchasing) pleasure. Much thanks to the awesome Bell of Lost Souls for the links – haven’t been to Games Workshop’s website for quite a while since the new site is rather hard to navigate IMHO.

As usual, the guides are accompanied by some awesome Games Workshop artwork like this piece of Ancient Scar-Leader Kroq-Gar on his Carnosaur encountering one of Skaven Clan Moulder’s hideous rat-ogres.

Seeing the photos of some of these magnificently painted miniatures (most probably by GW’s in-house ‘Eavy Metal team) often makes me want to order these minis on impulse, if not for the fact that they come unassembled and unpainted – assembly is nothing major but painting is another matter altogether :(

Some highlights from the Collector’s Guide.

My favourite troops from Warhammer Fantasy are the mercenary Dogs of War regiments as each comes with a colourful background and history – pictured here is Pirazzo’s Lost Legion. sculpted by Alan and Michael Perry

Space Marine heroes and specialist Marines like the Techmarines

The Lord of The Ring fans are not left out too – the trio of models above portray the Witch-king moments before his death at the hands of Eowyn and Merry.

I like the fact that GW is providing us with the odd freebie, but frankly the whole miniatures thing is way to expensive these days. Anyway. Lovely post and thanks for the info.

You should really check out Bell of Lost Souls – I get most of my Games Workshop info from there now – the new GW website looks like a overglorfied online store now.

Personally, as a collector of sorts, I kind of like Rackham’s prepainted miniatures for AT-43 but I think the tabletop gamers would probably raise hell over this issue :(

I do wish that Forgeworld would provide a PDF catalogue of their stuff. I have their paper catalogue for 2008 but it seems such a waste of paper and postage by not offering an electronic alternative.

Hmmm… just googled that Bell of Lost Souls and -to say the least- it does seem very promising. Not that it makes anything cheaper, but those eBay links are quite intriguing… Excellent site too.

Not a fan of pre-painted minis myself, but frankly they are better than totaly unpainted ones…

You’re spot on about the fact that totally unpainted minis being absolutely unattractive stuff :P
