Random Monday : Narrow Gauge Locomotives in Singapore

Exhibit A – WTH is this?!

Recently acquired an interest in trains and railways after seeing Exhibit A (above) at one of the Circle MRT Line construction projects along my daily commute. I’m quite sure it is a locomotive since there are some narrow tracks laid on the ground (see below) and besides, which road travelling vehicle needs wheels of steel?

There doesn’t seem to be much information or pictures on the web on narrow gauge industrial locomotives though – either that or I have to start brushing up on my search engine techniques at searchlores :)

A couple of sites that I found – a manufacturer of industrial narrow gauge electric locomotives – Fushun Beilong Electric Locomotive Company Ltd. and Roger Marks’s Narrow Perspectives.

Do add a comment if you have more info on these interesting vehicles.

Don’t think I’ve seen anything like that before, though urban railways can indeed be extremely varied. Planetizen.com might be a good place to start searching.

This one’s only for the construction project only so I can’t sneak in for a better look – damn!
