About Roys!

Introduction
I like to download stuff as you can see from the title above. A whole lot of stuff. Only stuff I personally like, download or use will be posted here so you won’t see stuff just because everyone’s writing about them (like Blizzard’s World of Warcraft for example)

This site sometimes (actually, it’s usually) feels like a hodge-podge of totally contrasting and unrelated stuff because I enter words randomly into Google based on various things I read in print or on the .NET daily. I particularly adore Google Image Search and Wikipedia because I find some really irrelevant but interesting stuff that I would never have bothered to search for – and that usually leads to even more unrelated content for this site :(

By the way, I usually don’t update this site on weekends because I don’t always have access to the Internet at home.

What I (Usually) Write About
Usually, I search and write about character artwork and wallpapers from games and talented illustrators tucked away in places like DeviantArt and GfxArtist. I hardly if ever, collect photos, unless they relate to military stuff.

I also like promotional trailers for games, especially when they feature pre-rendered fighting scenes. I usually provide screen captures from my trusty VLC Media Player if I think the the trailers are good enough and provide links to the HD version where possible. I detest the quality of YouTube Flash video so you’ll rarely see YouTube stuff here.

I also like collecting PDFs of catalogs and specifications for machines that I like – from firearms to cars, even tanks ;)

Occassionally I write about good sites I regularly read or chanced upon as well as the odd software or free game downloads that I find useful or enjoyable. I also find myself playing more Flash games nowadays so you get to read random reviews of Flash games once in a while.

I dabble a bit with free electronic music software and write about them sometimes.

I also download and collect papercraft plans which I probably will never ever construct.

Q&A
A mini Q&A conducted by myself :)

Hey, the stuff you categorize under Anime isn’t Anime! It should be manga, manhwa, etc!
Sorry, but I’m no expert in this field. Plus I already have enough categories as it is.

What do you categorize under Art? I see a mishmash of stuff all categorized under Art. Are you serious all these are art?
I usually categorize posts on game concept artwork and illustrations by individual artists that I like under Art. All artwork are credited to their respective artists where possible and I try to contact the individual artists for permissions before posting their stuff on there.

Originally, I was trying to collect as much artwork from various illustrators who had contributed to the Warhammer 40,000 universe and soon expanded my collection to many other artists whom I had the pleasure of finding. The posts on their artwork on this site stand currently as tiny tokens of appreciation, hopefully I get to present and expose their artwork to those readers who usually do not visit art-related sites.

View some of my favourite artists here.

Why do you like guns? Guns are scary!
I appreciate and admire them from an aesthetic and engineering point of view only (not that I understand much about the engineering that goes in these machines although I have used the M16 during National Service). My obsession only started when I realized that the FN P90 in the game Fallout 2 was a real-life SMG.

Ok, you like machines. What other machines do you like?
I like cars, especially Japanese tuner cars, rally cars and the occassional supercar (especially Lamborghini), sportbikes, trucks (the bigger the better) and military vehicles. I also like military planes and attack helicopters (especially ex-Soviet/Russian ones) as well as World War 2 battleships. I also like fictional machines like Gundam mobile suits and Transformers :)

I hate ads! Why are there ads on this site?
The ads are there for me to assess if I can make a living doing this full time. At the moment, I guess I better stick to my current job ;)

However, this site is probably not going to allocate any more space for ads and there will definitely never be any PayPerPost posts or paid reviews here. I don’t like reading those and I guess you won’t like reading them either.

Can we do link exchanges?
Sorry, the current blogroll is for sites that I read and/or comment on a almost daily basis. Feel free to drop a comment if you have a site that you think I’ll like. I will post a review of your site under Recommended if I like it. (There’s no need to link me back whatsoever, a good site is worth writing about anyway and please don’t ask me to review your earn-money-blogging site).

I reserve the right to delete inappopriate comments for this post as I deem fit.

Hey Roys! ive been searching with no success for over 3 weeks for a catalog of military weapons, because like you I am an enthusiast of guns. I am fascinated by design, make and use. The link you have for Kiesler with the 82 pages seems to be the only thing that is remotely close to what I am looking for. I would love a copy of it but the link is not working. I am not sure if you still have it? I know you cannot distribute it and my word means as much as the next guys but I am not selling it or distributing it. If i do I will be the one getting into legal trouble not you. Anyways you would honestly make my day, my month and perhaps even my year if i could get my hands on this thing. PLEASE from one gun enthusiast to another!

Greetings, I’m a SGT in the Oregon Army National Guard, and we are producing an Almanac featuring the folks that make up the Oregon’s forces. I love some of the concept art here and would love to use some in our Almanac. Also would love to find more royalty free concept art on weapons, vehicles and soldier uniforms. Can you help? We are of course non profit and are not looking to make any money here, just hoping to be able to provide a really cool book of remembrance for our troops. Thanks and love the site!

  13. Roys SINGAPORE, Monday, November 3rd, 2008, 11:35 am

Hi Cherie, most of the concepts here are actually copyright of their respective creators .

You could try contacting the copyright owners or the respective artists for permission. Most of the artists featured here probably have no issue with their artwork being used for non-profit purposes provided that their permission is sought beforehand.

Any specific artists or particular concepts that you have in mind?
