Art Friday : My Favourite Pepper Project Entries

The Pepper Project initiated by Stanley Lau, Creative Director for Singapore’s very own Imaginary Friends Studio (IFS) has ended its call for entries whereby selected entries will be included in the the next IFS artbook. While waiting for the upcoming artbook, perhaps you might be interested to know the previous two artbooks Imagine 1 and Imagine Prime can be purchased at a 30% discount with the checkout code PEPPER from the IFS online store. Here’s a preview of the fabulous art from the 256-page Imagine Prime artbook.

All entries have to feature either Stanley Lau’s (aka Artgerm) character Pepper (top) and/or Kendrick Lim’s (aka Kunkka) Wanda (bottom). More pictures of the two ladies - click here for Pepper and here for Wanda.)

© Kendrick Lim

My favourite three invited artworks from the 29 showcased at the Pepper Project gallery (incidentally all three have been illustrated by artists from Imaginary Friends Studio)

© Kai

Pepper The Warlord by (Kai aka Ukitakumuki) - I like the foreboding sense of dread and gloom in this one. Plus it’s by one of my favourite IFS artists :D

© Kendrick Lim

Pepper Audiophile by Kendrick Lim (aka Kunkka) - The things people do to get crystal clear sounds 8O

© Admira Wijayadi

Pepper Retro Junky by Admira Wijayadi (aka garang76) - Reminds me of an illustration of a blonde Sarah Morrison from Tabula Rasa by Steven Stahlberg.

My favourite 10 artworks from the 830+ public entries in no particular order.

© Marcus Lee

Pepper Dawn by local artist Marcus Lee. His other entry Pepper Breezy is pretty good too. Check out his recently-opened blog over at busyges.blogspot.com.

© Victor Negreiro

Pepper Chessmaster by Victor Negreiro (aka WakaBee) - A really refreshing deviation (pun intended) from the majority of under-dressed Peppers in the gallery :P

© Lee C.H

Pepper Sprays by BramLeech from Malaysia.

© Michelle Soneja

Pepper Live by Michelle Soneja (aka Sh3lly) I love rocker grrls especially the one by Japanese artist Ryu :)

© Jordi Ros

Urban Flower by Spanish artist ‘Marcks’ Jordi Ros.

© Miguel Mercado

Martial Groove ver. 2 by Miguel Mercado (aka merkymerx) - Pepper does look pretty hot as a Muay Thai proponent.

© Cedric Poulat

Music in the Mood - Pepper Song by French artist Cedric Poulat (aka J-Estacado). I almost thought this was an edited photo :)

© Sylvia Yasmine

Lollipop by Sylvia Yasmine from Brazil. Reminds me of Will Murai’s slightly NSFW What’s Yo Flava? artworks :P

© Lin

Twin Flowers by 14 year-old (!) Lin aka (D-BT) from New Zealand. I wish I could paint half as well when I was that age 8O

© Jeffrey Chin

Finally, Valkyrie by Jeffrey Chin to round up this list.

Stunning! And I do especially love the Victor Negreiro surreal chess scene.

Yep, there’s a lot of talent represented in there, I had a great time sifting through the entries and finding new artists to watch while writing this article :)

No problem, I may not be trained in the artst but I know good stuff when I see them :D

Discovered a lot of fine artists like you that I haven’t seen before the Pepper Project, has been a truly enlightening experience.
