Art Friday : Rumble Roses Fan Art @ Ryu’s Form Site

A profilic illustrator specializing in predominately the anime female form, first featured on The Elderly Gamer in October 2006.

This illustrator known only as RYU has his own website RYU’s Form Site (WARNING: some images are NSFW) featuring currently 374 artworks - some fan art for various video game characters, as well as his own character designs. Tried contacting RYU for permission to feature his artwork here, but haven’t received any response for close to 2 months so I guess I will just stick it up here ;)

Nanaca Crash 1.07 - Crazy Flash Game

I love this old Flash game which you attempt to propel a human cannonball over the longest distance possible. It’s very short (less than 5 mins for each game unlike those damn Tower Defense games)

Although the characters in this game come from an adult game Cross†Channel, this little game is perfectly PG.

The in-game instructions are in Japanese so I have done a small summary of the main features of the game below. There’s more detailed English instructions for the 1.05 version of the game at jayisgames.com.

To start you select a trajectory to propel your unwitting human cannonball (I believe he’s called Taichi) into the sky. Select an almost vertical trajectory and you can probably get a result like this below.

After you have clicked and set the trajectory, sit back and watch as Taichi bounces up and down until his velocity drops to 0. When he hits a character on the ground, he may be affected in a number of ways like increased velocity, slowdown or even stopped which concludes the game.

Good effect

Bad effect (but good for Taichi)

All this is automatically resolved so the only way you can increase the distance travelled is by using Aerials. When Taichi is ascending, click to push him diagonally downwards with an increased speed (works well to direct him to a beneficial character on the ground). On descending, you can click to drive him diagonally upwards (both to avoid certain characters on the ground as well as to build up speed) The Aerial button flashes red for the former type Aerials (limited to three) and blue for the latter (recharges upon descending).

When the Special word flashes on the screen for a split second, just click the mouse for some really OTT powers (a bit like the tag team powers in the Marvel Vs Capcom series)

My best score is 7399.51m through a potent mix of pure skill and extreme luck. Just kidding about the pure skill part ;)

There’s three versions of this game on the .NET. I’m not sure of the differences between the three versions because I only play version 1.07 on the official(?) site.

Version 1.05 @ nanaca.narr.as
Version 1.06 (Standalone SWF file @ www.geocities.jp/lledoece)
Version 1.07 @ www.geocities.jp/lledoece

Mirai Suenaga - Blog Mascot

Mirai Suenaga is a fictional anime girl and mascot for Danny Choo’s blog about the (sometimes) weird and wonderful world of Japan’s modern culture - anime, toy figurines, idols (Did I mention idols :D) and miscellaenous photos and stuff about Japan.

www.dannychoo.com’s mascot Mirai was conceptualized by Danny Choo himself and drawn by illustrator Azamiyuko. Read more about Mirai at her own section of the blog or view concept art and more over at this post.

Here’s two wallpapers of Mirai.

Download these wallpapers from www.dannychoo.com here. Most common resolutions should be supported as Danny Choo has a nifty little tool to convert the available wallpapers to any specified width and height ;)

Seems that mascots are an in-thing for blogs nowadays - even The Elderly Gamer has a virtual blonde named Olga as his mascot.

Jun Tsukasa @ Rendered Beauty

What would be a better way to introduce a site that deals with anime beauties and eye-catching graphics than to display a stunning picture from that blog in question? Another expert technique I learnt from The Elderly Gamer here :p

Here’s a sample illustration of a fictional female samurai from the Jun Tsukasa article @ Rendered Beauty.

Stunning graphics are not the only goodies available on Rendered Beauty. There’s photos of anime and manga figures and garage kits (sorry, female characters only :), anime and manga desktop wallpapers and videos, cosplay photos (sorry, also female characters only :) as well as introductions to more well known anime and manga artists.

If you’re interested in Jun Tsukasa’s artwork, do visit his official site’s gallery and an unofficial gallery @ gallery.shirow.net (Some NSFW images on this site).

Before you start clicking furiously on the above links and disappear permanently from here, do remember to check out another Japanese artist Sana Takeda as well as Johannesburg-based anime-influenced illustrator Warren Louw on this blog :)
