Wallpapers Wednesday : Top Cow’s First Born Wallpapers

A couple of beautifully painted wallpapers for Top Cow Comic’s First Born, a self-contained three issue series which debuted at Top Cow 2007 summer event. Sure, it’s old stuff but these two lavishly detailed wallpapers which happen to be the covers for First Born Issue #0 and Issue #1 respectively, still look fantastic.

Since Top Cow Comics stated this series involves the entirety of the Top Cow Universe, it meant that familiar characters like Jackie Estacado (The Darkness) (below), …

Sara Pezzini (below) from Witchblade

and Angelus featured prominently in First Born.

Excerpts above are from the first issue of First Born which can be read for free at the official site.

Both the covers above and the comics were painted by Croatian artist Stjepan Sejic and you can see more of his work at nebezial.deviantart.com (definitely a must-visit for fans of Top Cow’s particular brand of art)

Art Friday : Hoophy Paper Toys by Shin Tanaka

Caught these updates to Shin Tanaka’s series of Hoophy paper toys during my monthly visit to my list of bookmarked websites. Four new designs by David Flores, Superdeux, David Horvath and Skwak (my favourite!) have been released for download. If you’re a fan of his Spiky Baby or Mask Hoody paper toy series, I’ll sure you’ll love these :)

Art Friday: Der Blog der lebenden Toten (Blog Of The Living Dead)

Something I read over at Skull-A-Day about an ongoing art project by Timo Grubing to create a different artistic representation of the living dead (or the undead) everyday. Started on Halloween 2008, Timo has already 150+ entries at Der Blog der lebenden Toten (Blog Of The Living Dead) and will continue to update the blog every day with a new addition to his growing army of zombies all the way till Halloween 2009.

Happy/Zombie Face – Day 126 (05 March 2009)

While I’m definitely fascinated by zombies and the undead, I know that not everyone is so inclined on such a morbid and macabre subject so I’ll just put up some of my favourites and you can decide on whether you want to check it out. I’ll skip the ones with entrails spilling out too, if case you’re reading this before lunch :)

We’ll start off with a happy zombie. Timo’s creations seem to be perpetually grinning :) Click on the links below each image to go directly to Timo’s blog to view them in their original resolution.

Art Friday : The (Draconic) Art of Kerem Beyit

Kerem Beyit is one fine researcher of dragons masquerading as an illustrator (or vice versa). Either way, Kerem’s gallery is one that you definitely should not miss especially if you’re a dragon researcher (or a fantasy art fan).

A set of ten magnificently illustrated dragon heads will certainly grab your attention when you enter his personal gallery at his official website (www.theartofkerembeyit.com) – from the common red dragon commonly depicted in fantasy games and books to a majestic gold dragon.

My favourite is the black dragon (below) – I just love those glowering eyes and that air of thinly concealed malice

If you can’t get enough of Kerem’s fantastic dragons, there’s always the freely downloadable wallpapers of these fabulous beasts to grace your desktop in various resolutions from 800×600 to 1600×1200 and 1920×1200.

Intricate details and stunningly realistic lighting effects are a hallmark of his works and this trio of his latest personal artworks is no exception. Check out the glistening sheen on the armour and ornately decorated shield of the Dark Knight below.

And over here, we introduce the world’s finest armoured high heels modelled by this charming half-elf archer, courtesy of Kerem.

You have to see the original artwork of Dragon Mage (above) in its high resolution glory to appreciate the subtle differences in the fiery glow reflecting off different objects in this beautiful piece – dragon hide and scales, stone outcroppings and of course, the lovely dragon mage and her metal staff.

Other than his beloved dragons, Kerem has also produced commissions for various companies like Jordanian comics publisher Aranim Media Factory. I don’t have the permission from Aranim to post them up right now but you’ll defnitely want to take a look at his intensely dark and broody takes on Richard Lionheart and Saladin in his Jobs galleries.

Check out the galleries or download tutorials, wallpapers and avatars at The Art of Kerem Beyit.

Art Friday : LeoArtz.com – In Art We Trust

Today’s site of the day is a collection of links to artists both traditional and digital, from established industry professionals to lesser known creatives and all good!

Russian artist Leonid Kozienko (aka elfa on CGSociety)’s official site at loeartz.com boasts a staggeringly impressive list of artists conveniently categorized for your perusal (and will probably take at least a month to check out the portfolios of each artist listed too).

I haven’t gone thorough the entire list yet, but I have already bookmarked over 70+ links to check out in the coming months and you can be sure that there will be more than a few whose works will be featured here in the near future.

Meanwhile, check out Leonid Kozienko’s links over at LeoArtz and his portfolio @ CGSociety.
