Art Friday : Russ Schwenkler (dangeruss) – Vexel & 3D Cars and Motorcycle Art

Amazing vexel illustrations and 3D renders of cars that could easily pass off as real photos. Take for example, this black Lamborghini Gallardo ‘Nera’ below.

Russ Schwenkler aka Dangeruss not only creates and showcases these highly detailed illustrations and renders without watermarks in his DeviantArt gallery but generously provides them in resolutions large enough to use as wallpapers for most desktops as well (personal use only – more details here).

Most of the cars illustrated are tuned Japanese cars but there’s a variety of other cars, supercars and motorcylces of both American and European makes to keep any car and /or motorcycle enthusiast really happy :)

Below are three of my favourites – more at DeviantArt and his official site at www.dangeruss.net.

So how does Russ go about illustrating his cars? View the steps for this Subaru Impreza WRX here or read about his vexel method of illustration on his profile page at www.dangeruss.net.

BTW, Russ also did the illustrations for the cars on the packaging of Xbox 360’s Forza Motorsports 2 :D

Wallpapers Wednesday : Forza Motorsport 2 Wallpapers

Just downloaded the FSK for Forza Motorsport 2 a few days and noticed that the cars on the cover art of the game were different for the US and European versions of the game.

© Microsoft Game Studios

In Europe, the cover art was of an Aston Martin DB9 (top) whereas for the North American version, a Nissan 350Z (bottom) was on the cover. Maybe the Europeans don’t share the American infatuation with Japanese imports :P

One nice thing about Microsoft being a game publisher is that downloading FSKs are always a breeze thanks to incredible download speed from Microsoft servers. Unfortunately, this FSK isn’t linked on the official site at forzamotorsport.net. Don’t know why though :(

You can still download the 8.49 MB FSK which I found via forzamotorsport.net Forums through this direct link. (WARNING: Nothing much in there except for the above wallpapers which are exclusive to the FSK)

Art Friday : Papercraft Paradise – A Paradise for Machine Papercraft

Michael James’s Papercraft Paradise is another papercraft blog with an excellent collection of links for papercraft plans. Before you dismiss it as Yet-Another-Papercraft blog, check out the extensive collection of papercraft machines (amongst other papercraft) featured at this wonderful blog.

Below is a selection of ones I like (All images taken from Papercraft Paradise)

There are military papercraft like this destroyer above as well as WWII Imperial Japanese Navy submarines, …

WWII tanks like a US M5 Stuart light tank or a PzKpfw IV Ausf D, …

A paper version of a Ingram M11 with laser, sound suppressor & reflex sight, …

As well as machines like a Toyota Corolla that looks exactly like the one in Colin McRae Rally 2.0, …

Super=deformed (SD) stuff like Tiger tanks & aircraft (A Supermarine Spitfire perhaps?) and Gundams here and here, …

Even an iPhone, …

Heck, even a Sakai steamroller.

If you’re a papercraft fan, check out Papercraft Paradise.

JDM Option – Japanese Car Tuning and Modification Magazine

Photos and article excerpts of some heavily modified Japanese cars from the Japanese car tuning and modification magazine JDM Option. Modifications range from the aesthetic modifications like bumpers, fenders and body kits to massive feats of engineering like engine transplants!

Here’s my favourite being the Black Illusion SF-X15 Silva modified by Sequential from the stock Nissan Silvia S15. I love the agressive styling!

The R·Y·O Style GD RX-7 is another favourite. Reminds me of Spiderman’s costume :p

Other favorites include the Car Boutique ERG Sift 86 D1 Spec based on the Toyota AE86 (think Initial D) and the power house amuse Carbon R, a modified Nissan Skyline R34.

View other modified cars at Featured Vehicles page or download wallpapers (30 available) from the wallpaper page.

Motorstorm Official Wallpapers

Been stuck trying to download the Motorstorm wallpapers today from the Motorstorm UK site for quite a while today. Finally realized that there was nothing wrong with my Opera browser or the Flash plugin: the site was simply providing the wrong links to the 1024×768 versions of the wallpapers.

© Evolution Studios

Here’s the correct links for the 1024×768 wallpapers (The links for the 1280×1024 and PSP wallpapers are working fine). To download the top wallpaper, click here. The bottom one is downloadable from here.

Three more unofficial (but nice!) high resolution wallpapers are also available from GameWallpapers.com.
