Art Friday : Papercraft Paradise - A Paradise for Machine Papercraft

Michael James’s Papercraft Paradise is another papercraft blog with an excellent collection of links for papercraft plans. Before you dismiss it as Yet-Another-Papercraft blog, check out the extensive collection of papercraft machines (amongst other papercraft) featured at this wonderful blog.

Below is a selection of ones I like (All images taken from Papercraft Paradise)

There are military papercraft like this destroyer above as well as WWII Imperial Japanese Navy submarines, …

WWII tanks like a US M5 Stuart light tank or a PzKpfw IV Ausf D, …

A paper version of a Ingram M11 with laser, sound suppressor & reflex sight, …

As well as machines like a Toyota Corolla that looks exactly like the one in Colin McRae Rally 2.0, …

Super=deformed (SD) stuff like Tiger tanks & aircraft (A Supermarine Spitfire perhaps?) and Gundams here and here, …

Even an iPhone, …

Heck, even a Sakai steamroller.

If you’re a papercraft fan, check out Papercraft Paradise.

Random Monday : Classic Transformers Ladybird Books

Saw this video clip of the original 1986 The Transformers : The Movie re-dubbed with the lines from the more recent 300 movie at The Meditation Chamber which reminded me of this 300-related post by gnome as well as the Ladybird Transformers books which I used to have (a long long time ago that is).

This is Madness!

No, this … is … Transformaaaa!!!

I’ve found a site where Derik Smith provides nice scans of these mini Transformers books written by John Grant with illustrations provided by different artists. Each was 40 to 50 pages in hardcover. I used to own Transformers : The Movie and Megatron’s Fight for Power although I have absolutely where they are at the moment :(

Images scanned by Derik Smith

Other books available:
Autobots’ Lightning Strike
Autobot Hostage
Autobots Fight Back
Laserbeak’s Fury
Galvatron’s Air Attack
Autobots Strike Oil
Decepticon Hideout
Deceptions at the Pole
Deceptions Underground

You may also find something of interest at this other site by Steve-o Stonebraker from which I found Derik’s site. Some other information on other rarely seen Transformers books can also be found here.

Kinetic Singapore - Of Robots, Yes 93.3 FM & More!

Do you like robots? What about a horned robot that transforms from a rocket, fires death rays from its eyes and hands and spews missiles from its body?

If you’re interested, check out this cool robot in the interactive Flash intro for Kinetic Singapore, a local design and advertising agency.

After the robot has safely touched down, click on it to see it unleash its fury upon the tanks and helicopters surrounding it.

Don’t forget to check out the other Flash animations for What’s New, This is Kinetic and especially Victories where our robot does a King Kong by perching itself atop a skyscraper.

Most of the Flash stuff are interactive so click around - you might see something interesting like the one below :)

As for the projects by Kinetic, I’m sure you have seen some of their work in SG before although their name may not be familiar to you (yet). Below are some of their past projects that I have encountered.

By the way, I discovered Kinetic by chance after clicking on the wrong link when searching for ST Kinetics. Oops!

How to download that Transformers Exclusive Trailer from Yahoo! Movies

I usually download movie trailers from Apple’s Movie Trailers (Transformers @ Apple’s Movie Trailers) because I can achieve a higher download speed but the upcoming Transformers movie has one exclusive HD trailer @ Yahoo! Movies that is not available elsewhere on the .NET, as well as all the other trailers in their full HD glory.

My Opera browser doesn’t have the Quicktime player needed for viewing the trailer @ Yahoo! Movies and besides, I prefer to watch the trailer offline than attempt to stream a 100+ MB 720×480 HD video.

After clicking on 720p (or 480p or 1080p) for the Exclusive Trailer, we are asked to save this .qtl file if the Quicktime player is not installed (if it is installed, right click and save the .qtl file instead.)

Open the .qtl file in a text editor and search for embed src=. Copy the entire text until a double quote is found - the copied text should be something like http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?…. Paste this URL into your browser or download manager and enjoy :D

Some stills from the Exclusive Trailer to keep you busy while waiting for the download to complete :) I like the part where Starscream transforms - couldn’t capture that part though :(

Optimus Prime does gymnastics :p

After watching this trailer several times, I think I rather watch 1986’s original The Transformers : The Movie instead - I like the original design for Megatron a lot more :(
