Wallpapers Wednesday : Metal Gear AC!D Wallpapers

Here’s a collection of wallpapers featuring Solid Snake of Metal Gear Solid fame and rest of the Metal Gear AC!D ensemble. If you ever wondered how Solid Snake of Metal Gear Solid fame would look like when re-interpreted in anime style or in garish pink, I’m sure you’ll find these wallpapers for the (rather old) card-based PSP game very, very interesting.

A selection of the wallpapers below.

© Konami

There aren’t any familiar faces from the Metal Gear Solid series apart from the Snake himself. More information on the characters.

About the neon pink colour of the wallpapers, I find them to be a striking contrast to the militant nature of the characters featured on them. I seriously doubt that pink would be the first colour on anyone’s mind when it comes to super soldiers and mercenaries for hire :)

Download the wallpapers from the Metal Gear AC!D site. There’s also concept art over at Metal Gear AC!D 2 but more of that next Friday (or the next :) ).

Wallpapers Wednesday : Marvel Official Wallpapers

Finally found some time to look through the 1200+ wallpapers downloaded from Marvel’s official wallpaper archive. While I know that Marvel holds the copyrights to some of the coolest and most recognizable superheroes due to their movie tie-ins, there’s many other cool yet lesser known characters in their massive stable of superheroes (and supervillains) …

© Marvel

And zombies. I absolutely love zombies, especially zombified Wolverine :)

© Marvel

Most wallpapers feature household names like Captain America, The Hulk, Spiderman, Fantastic Four and Wolverine & the rest of the X-Men I believe all these heroes have their own major feature films with the sole exception of Captain America.

© Marvel

There’s some interesting images of these superheroes in their original costumes as shown on the covers of the first issues of the Fantastic Four, The Avengers, and Daredevil. And yes, that yellow tinman in The Avengers #1 IS Ironman.

© Marvel

While I’m absolutely devastated at the omission of my favourite Marvel villain Omega Red (and there’s no Blackheart in there either), at least several of the major villians are represented, notably Magneto, Venom, Dr Doom and Bullseye.

© Marvel

Some other interesting characters that I found while browsing these wallpapers include Black Panther who (concidentally?) looks like Batman, Deadpool, Moon Knight, Penance (vs Wolverine), Ronin (seen here battling Elektra), grotesque Man-Thing and some other characters in Annihilation : Conquest and Thunderbolts.

© Marvel

Marvel also publishes several series which have some beautiful characters like the supermodel superheroes in Heroes for Hire :)

© Marvel

I also like the character designs in series like Amazing Fantasy, Mystical Arcana and Daughters of Dragon.

UPDATE (12 Aug 2008) : Just identified the character on the left of the second wallpapers as Death’s Head 3.0 while reading up on Waffen SS ‘Totenkopf’ divisions.

© Marvel

I found the Marvel Illustrated series rather interesting, which are essentially comic versions of classics like the Greek epic The Iliad. I would love to get this one if a trade paperback exists :)

Wallpapers Wednesday : Kicks Online

Wallpapers starring some of the most funky looking (and blingy) footballers from this Hong Kong online soccer game Kicks Online. Don’t ask why these players are all wearing gloves or more than they should, must be a new street soccer fashion trend.

© Entermate Corporation

The OTT-ness of Kicks Online reminds me of an old SEGA Genesis fantasy soccer ROM that I played years ago - Boy Soccer Team III. I’m not even sure whether the title is correct or if it’s a homebrew game since there’s no starting screen or credits.

It’s a realtime game whereby you choose options from a menu when the player you control meets one or more players of the opposing team. Each offensive option has a defensive counter so you need to choose the best action based on the current situation, player skills and probable action of the player(s) opposing you. It’s all very tactical and truly innovative so I’m very tempted to release the ROM that I have as a public download, provided it’s a homebrew title. Gotta to do more research on this game first before I decide on that.

Some screenshots of Boy Soccer Team III below.

Download wallpapers from Kicks Online (sixth option from the left and second option from the submenu that appears 桌布下载).

Wallpapers Wednesday : Ninja Town

Wallpapers for a Nintendo DS game Ninja Town featuring a bunch of cute harmless-looking ninjas. Character designs are done by Shawnimals who dabble in all sorts of cutesy stuff - plushes, buttons, tees, etc.

© Shawnimals

Found out about this game via a trailer released at Gametrailers for Games Convention 2007 . While there’s the standard introduction of the key characters in Ninja Town, there’s no hint whatsoever of the type of gameplay to expect from this title.

Some captures from the trailer below.

Ninja Town under attack!

Ninja consultant. WTH! Does he throw pie charts instead of shurikens.

The requisite wise old ninja master.

Wallpapers Wednesday : UAZ Racing 4×4 Series - Offroad Vehicle Galore

© Avalon Style Entertainment

Some beautifully illustrated wallpapers of rugged offroad vehicles - I love these type of vehicles especially after the previous few trips to Sabah where 4×4 pickup trucks with their distinctively high ground clearance are almost as common as ordinary cars - older models of Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Land Rovers are dime a dozen - no Hummer though :P

© Avalon Style Entertainment

The wallpapers in the first UAZ Racing 4×4 featured mainly Russian offroad vehicles like the Jeep-like UAZ-469 and GAZ-69 as well as the UAZ-450 truck while its sequel depicted American SUVs like the iconic Hummer and offerings from Chevrolet and GMC (below).

© Avalon Style Entertainment

More information on UAZ Racing 4×4 can be found at the official English site @ 1C Publishing. The sequel featuring the Hummer is only available in Russian at the moment.

© Avalon Style Entertainment

For those who prefer their offroad vehicles accompanied by ladies (see above), the calendar section is definitely for you - I like my UAZs’ rendered and uncluttered though like the ones below :) I’m curious about the third vehicle below - can anyone help to identify it?

Download wallpapers from the official Russian site for UAZ Racing 4×4. Originally found these wallpapers from GameWallpapers.ru, the best site IMHO for discovering wallpapers of Russia-only games.
